Buenos Aires prepares for autonomous vehicle testing

Buenos Aires is preparing to conduct autonomous vehicle testing on public roads following the publication of a new regulatory framework. The city's framework allows companies, universities, and research centers to request authorization to perform pilot tests under controlled conditions.

Mois Navon, a former chief engineer at Mobileye and an international expert in autonomous technology, participated in discussions regarding the initiative. Navon noted that the city's road infrastructure and markings facilitate the coexistence of autonomous vehicles with traditional traffic, distinguishing it from other Latin American cities where vehicular disorder presents a greater obstacle.

The initiative aims to combine local talent and academic institutions to position the city as a regional innovation hub. The regulatory scheme includes requirements for technical standards, safety, audits, and liability for damages.
