Governor Axel Kicillof pushes platform‑worker regulation and backs local SMEs in Buenos Aires

The Buenos Ayres provincial government, led by Governor Axel Kicillof, submitted a comprehensive bill to the provincial legislature to regulate work performed through digital platforms. The proposal creates a “Plan Integral for Work via Digital Platforms” that would require companies such as Uber, Cabify, Rappi, Pedidos Ya and others to provide accident insurance, a mobile panic‑button app, algorithm transparency and access to micro‑credit for workers. It aligns with International Labour Organization recommendations and seeks to counter national labour reforms that left platform workers outside the Labour Contract Law.

In parallel, Kicillof opened a multisector business round in Ituzaingó, attended by more than 330 small‑ and medium‑sized enterprises, cooperatives and entrepreneurs, as well as provincial ministers of Production and Agricultural Development. The event highlighted the province’s effort to stimulate local industry, noting that 114 such rounds have already involved over 24 500 firms and generated tens of thousands of commercial contacts. Kicillof used the forum to criticize the national government’s economic policies under President Javier Milei, claiming they have caused massive job losses and corporate closures.
