Buenos Aires province authorizes tuition increases for private schools

The government of Buenos Aires province has approved new tuition fee structures for private educational institutions that receive state subsidies. The adjustment involves two monthly increases of 3% each, scheduled for November and December.

The new rates apply to various educational levels, including initial, primary, secondary, technical, agricultural, artistic, and higher education. The maximum amount institutions can charge depends on the level of state support they receive, which ranges from 40% to 100%. For example, a primary school receiving 100% state funding may charge up to $39,210 in November, whereas a school receiving 40% support could charge up to $177,340. In secondary education, the 100% subsidy cap is $43,230, while the 40% subsidy cap reaches $230,450.

The Association of Private Teaching Institutes of Argentina (AIEPA) expressed concern regarding the financial impact of these adjustments. Executive Secretary Martín Zurita noted that current mechanisms do not fully compensate for rising operational and salary costs, and that delays in authorizations force schools to absorb economic discrepancies themselves.
