Buenos Aires Province driving licence fee hike sparks UCR demand for transparency

The cost of a professional driving licence in Buenos Aires Province rose from about 22,000 pesos to 300,000 pesos, an increase of roughly 1,260 %. The Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) deputy Diego Garciarena presented a request for information to Governor Axel Kicillof, asking the provincial executive to explain the reasons for the rise and to break down the new fee into national, provincial, municipal taxes and private‑provider charges. Mar del Plata councillor Ariel Bordaisco filed a similar communication addressed to both the provincial government and the National Road Safety Agency, linking the jump to a new procedure that requires psychophysical evaluations and training with external providers. The fee hike had already been criticised by San Nicolás mayor Manuel Passaglia, who also questioned the role of the truck‑drivers’ union in the mandatory trainings. The licence is required for professional drivers such as truckers, bus drivers, taxi operators and rideshare drivers.
