Milei government revives political table with new cabinet chief Santilli

After the removal of former chief of staff Manuel Adorni, President Javier Milei appointed Diego Santilli as the new chief of cabinet. The government reactivated the “mesa política” on Wednesday, July 7, with Santilli leading the first meeting since the change.

The agenda centers on accelerating three flagship reforms: the “Zonas Frías” law to cut gas subsidies outside Patagonia, the Puno region and Malargüe; an electoral reform that would eliminate mandatory PASO primaries; and modifications to the fiscal‑inocence regime and the Central Bank charter. Secretary‑General Karina Milei, Senator Patricia Bullrich, the Menem brothers and other senior officials are slated to attend.

Santilli’s role also includes negotiating with governors to secure backing for the reforms. The administration plans a meeting with provincial leaders in Tucumán ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, while Buenos Aires province continues to press the national government for guarantees to obtain international financing for infrastructure projects. The political table’s first session was postponed by one day to avoid clashing with Argentina’s World Cup match against Egypt.
