Buenos Aires province issues cyanobacteria alerts in several municipalities

The Province of Buenos Aires has issued an orange alert for several municipalities due to the presence of cyanobacteria, including Monte Hermoso. In Monte Hermoso, authorities have issued precautions for the Sauce Grande Lagoon, advising residents and tourists against consuming water or fish from the area.

In contrast, Bahía Blanca has seen success in managing cyanobacteria at the Paso de las Piedras reservoir. To prevent the water service interruptions that occurred during previous warm and dry summers, the Pilot Plant of Chemical Engineering (Plapiqui)—a collaboration between the National University of the South and CONICET—implemented a system of nine buoys. These buoys emit energy stimuli that alter the water structure to create an environment less favorable for cyanobacteria development, showing positive results since their installation.
