Buenos Aires Province launches 1.3‑trillion‑peso climate risk plan

The government of Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province unveiled a Climate Risk Management Plan worth 1.3 trillion pesos to prepare for extreme weather linked to El Niño. Infrastructure and public‑service minister Gabriel Katopodis said the plan coordinates resources across ministries and municipalities, focusing on hydrometeorological monitoring, preventive measures and construction projects such as the expansion of the Maldonado Canal, coastal defenses and river‑basin works.

In parallel, the province’s Environment Ministry issued a new call for proposals from landowners with native forest. The programme, funded under national law 26.331 and provincial law 14.888, will finance the preparation of technical conservation‑management plans for native forests, aiming to protect soil, water and agricultural productivity. Participants can receive technical assistance and economic support, while any unauthorized forest activity may be sanctioned.
