Buenos Aires Province municipal transfers fall in first half of 2026

Real transfers from the Province of Buenos Aires to its 135 municipalities fell by 2.48% during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. According to a report by PPA Consultora, the provincial government transferred 2.778 trillion pesos, with tax coparticipation accounting for 75.9% of the total funds. Other components included the Educational Fund (10.6%) and tax decentralization (2.1%).

This decline represents a loss of approximately 74,683 million pesos in current values. The report notes that the first half of 2026 marked the lowest real level of transfers in six years, sitting 13% below the peak recorded in the second half of 2022. When measured against the purchasing power of diesel, the current resources are equivalent to 1,437 million liters, compared to 1,982 million liters in 2022—a 27.5% loss in purchasing power.

Regional impacts varied significantly. In the Seventh Electoral Section, Azul saw the largest decrease at 4.92%, followed by General Alvear (-3.59%) and 25 de Mayo (-2.80%). Conversely, Roque Pérez and Tapalqué were among the few districts to record real increases. Across the entire province, 82 of the 135 municipalities reached their worst transfer levels since 2021, while only 24 districts saw real increases.
