Buenos Aires province municipalities face salary shortfalls amid funding cuts

Municipalities in Buenos Aires province are warning that the payment of the mid‑year bonus has exposed a fragile fiscal situation. A drop in federal transfers, reduced own‑tax collection and the impact of national fiscal adjustments have left many local governments relying on reserves to meet payroll obligations, with limited margin for the upcoming December salary payments.

Union leader Hernán Doval, head of the Federación de Sindicatos Municipales Bonaerenses, called the situation "alarmante" and urged the CGT to devise a unified plan of action. He warned that while most municipalities managed to pay the bonus, “there are municipalities that will not be able to pay salaries in December” without additional provincial assistance. Doval announced regional meetings to coordinate a collective response and demanded financial support from the Buenos Aires provincial government.
