Buenos Aires Province Negotiates Salary Increase and Mid-Year Bonus for State Workers and Teachers

The government of Buenos Aires Province, led by Governor Axel Kicillof, is holding negotiations with unions representing state employees and teachers to finalize a new salary increase that will affect the mid‑year bonus (medio aguinaldo). The talks aim to restore purchasing power after inflation, with a target to finalize adjustments before the June payroll and provide salary predictability for the next three to four months. Public employees have already received a cumulative 9% salary increase and a non‑taxable bonus of 20,000‑30,000 pesos.

Provincial Labor Minister Walter Correa highlighted the priority of guaranteeing the medium bonus, noting the “great concern about the financial choking” caused by the national government's fiscal situation. He mentioned that Banco Provincia is offering tools to help workers reduce debt and described the negotiations as a complex but positive start given the national economic context.

Both officials stressed the political intention to treat the bargaining table as a forum for “companions” rather than a clash between employees and employers, aiming to secure a timely agreement for the province’s public sector.
