Buenos Aires province rolls out extensive June gender‑based violence prevention program

The municipal authorities in Lanús Oeste and other sites across Buenos Aires province have launched a June schedule of activities under the “Ni una menos” campaign. Events include a reflection session on gender violence on June 9 at the Leonardo Favio Cultural Center, a debate on justice challenges on June 12 at the municipal auditorium, a prevention workshop for mothers on June 16 at Fundación Pupi, a certificate ceremony for a domestic‑electricity training on June 18, a community awareness day on June 20 in Plaza Adela Maciel, a workshop on June 22 at the NIDO Monte Chingolo centre, a participatory mural on June 24 at the Ramón Carrillo health unit, and a final community outreach on June 27 in Plaza San Martín.

On June 3, the province’s Minister of Women and Diversity, Estela Díaz, and Subsecretary Laurana Malacalza presented the report “Violence for gender reasons in times of cruelty…”. The document links rising gender‑based violence to economic precarity, hate speech and intensified cruelty, noting that domestic violence accounts for over 90 % of reported cases, physical violence appears in 55 % of incidents, digital abuse is sharply increasing, and economic control is a central dimension of inequality. Díaz stressed, “Gender‑based violence cannot be analysed apart from material conditions and the broader political, social and cultural context.”
