Diego Valenzuela Named President of Buenos Aires Senate Municipal Affairs Commission

Senator Diego Valenzuela, former mayor of Tres de Febrero, was elected president of the Comisión de Asuntos Municipales, Descentralización y Fortalecimiento Institucional of the Buenos Aires Province Senate. The commission, created in a meeting at the Salón Antonio Cafiero, will oversee projects related to the municipal regime, decentralization and strengthening of local governments.

Valenzuela highlighted his ten‑year experience managing a municipality, saying, "Esto me permite aportar la experiencia de diez años de gestión y volcarla en proyectos junto con el resto de los senadores." He called the current Ley Orgánica de las Municipalidades, enacted in 1958, "de otra época" and urged a comprehensive modernization. The commission’s vice‑president is Mario Ishii (Fuerza Patria) and its secretary is Carlos Kikuchi (Unión y Libertad). Members include several former mayors and legislators from various parties, reflecting a focus on updating the legal framework and improving services for the province’s 17 million residents. Valenzuela also expressed concern over the Senate’s slow activity, noting that commissions were only being formed mid‑year.
