Buenos Aires Province Senate seeks to repeal law for unused Miami office

Senator Matías de Urraza of the libertarian block La Libertad Avanza presented a bill to abolish the 1998 law that created a Buenos Aires Province office for business promotion in Miami, a facility that never became operational. The proposal calls for the repeal of Laws 12.221 and 12.222, arguing that maintaining a non‑functioning structure wastes public funds while the province faces fiscal constraints under Governor Axel Kicillof.

Supporters say the change would streamline the provincial state, reduce unnecessary spending, and increase transparency in budget execution. They note that despite the law’s intent to attract foreign investment, the Miami office never delivered tangible benefits for Bonaerenses, and its continued existence is seen as a “ghost embassy” amid the province’s health, security and education priorities.
