Buenos Aires Province unveils comprehensive cyanobacteria management plan

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services of the Province of Buenos Aires has presented a technical document outlining six years of inter-institutional work to manage cyanobacteria blooms in regional water bodies. The initiative, coordinated through the Undersecretariat of Water Resources, aims to protect public health and water ecosystems through a multi-scale monitoring system.

Since its inception in 2020, the program has expanded to include 50 municipalities and established more than 90 control points. Key achievements include the training of over 1,300 personnel and the ‘cianosemáforo’ tool, which has surpassed one million visits. The strategy emphasizes early warning systems, environmental education, and citizen science, highlighted by the introduction of the CianoAlertAR application to facilitate community-driven environmental data collection.
