Buenos Aires recovers ex-factory after 40 years, hits 900 evictions
The city of Buenos Aires announced the recovery of a former ice‑factory in the Nueva Pompeya neighbourhood that had been occupied for roughly 40 years. The operation, carried out on 29 July 2026, was supervised by Mayor Jorge Macri and Security Minister Horacio Giménez and involved police, firefighters, emergency services and the Guard of Assistance.
The property, owned by the firm Megapar, was reclaimed after a judicial order issued following a 2022 lawsuit for intrusion. With this latest eviction, the city’s tally of properties restored to their owners since December 2023 reached 900, averaging about one per working day. Officials say the evictions contribute to lower crime rates and greater neighbourhood order.
