Buenos Aires regulates new law for people experiencing homelessness

The Government of Axel Kicillof has regulated a new law in the Province of Buenos Aires aimed at guaranteeing the rights of people experiencing homelessness or those at risk of such a situation. The new regime establishes an integral approach that includes social and health assistance, access to documentation, job placement support, and policies to facilitate access to permanent housing.

The law defines people in street situations as those living in public spaces, whether temporarily or permanently, regardless of whether they use overnight shelter services. It also covers individuals at risk, such as those facing eviction without resources, those exiting institutions without housing, and those living in precarious or overcrowded settlements.

The Directorate of Attention to Families in Street Situations will serve as the implementing authority. Key measures include the creation of a Provincial Network of Social Integration Centers, which will incorporate provincial and municipal facilities to provide voluntary and unrestricted access to services.
