Buenos Aires reports loss of 106,000 jobs and 3,300 businesses

The City of Buenos Aires has experienced a significant decline in employment and business activity over a 30-month period. According to data from the Superintendencia de Riesgos del Trabajo (SRT) and analysis by the CEPA Economic Observatory, the city lost 105,927 jobs between November 2023 and May 2026.

The most heavily impacted sector was public administration related to defense and mandatory social security, which saw a reduction of 42,991 positions. Other notable declines occurred in transport and storage services (16,912 jobs), manufacturing (16,869 jobs), professional, scientific, and technical services (14,853 jobs), and construction (7,333 jobs).

Four sectors—public administration, transport, manufacturing, and professional services—account for 86.5% of the total net job losses. The report also indicates a substantial decrease in the number of employers within the district during this timeframe.
