Buenos Aires residents protest potential loss of local heritage sites

Residents and community organizations in Buenos Aires are mobilizing to protect local landmarks and public spaces from demolition and real estate development.

In the Liniers neighborhood, the “Salvemos el Poli” collective has filed a judicial request to reinforce an existing injunction preventing the demolition of the Polideportivo Santojanni. The facility serves as a vital community hub for sports, social programs, and cultural workshops. Residents argue that any attempt to proceed with privatization or construction would cause irreparable harm to the community's quality of life.

In Villa del Parque, a historic chalet located at the corner of Campana and José Pedro Varela faces demolition after the Court of Appeals ruled in favor of developer DVT Real Estate and the City Government. The court overturned a previous injunction that had halted the demolition. In response, local residents and the Civil Association Observatorio del Derecho a la Ciudad have organized a protest to defend the neighborhood's urban identity and heritage.
