Buenos Aires schools get new heaters as heating crisis disrupts classes

Students at the historic Normal 1 school in La Plata reported that half of the building lacks functional heaters, forcing frequent class suspensions, room changes and reduced teaching time during the coldest week of the year. The student council highlighted additional building defects such as faulty windows, broken blinds and deteriorating infrastructure, and said the school board has only partially repaired the heaters.

In response to similar winter‑time heating problems, the provincial government of Buenos Aires, led by Governor Axel Kicillof, delivered 25 replacement heaters to the Junín School Council. The devices are intended to replace outdated or malfunctioning units and improve safety and comfort for students, teachers and staff across the district.

The actions illustrate the provincial education authority’s effort to address heating deficiencies in public schools amid broader budget constraints.
