Buenos Aires subway workers protest for employee reinstatement
Subway workers, union delegates, and leftist political organizations held a protest in the Balvanera neighborhood of Buenos Aires to demand the reinstatement of Araceli Pintos. Pintos, a former employee of the concessionaire Emova, claims she was dismissed in retaliation after reporting sexual and workplace harassment by a City Police officer.
During the demonstration near the Emova and Subterráneos de Buenos Aires offices, protesters reported instances of police repression. Buenos Aires legislator Alejandrina Barry alleged that a 15-year-old student was assaulted by police, receiving injuries to his shoulder and being struck with pepper spray. The protest follows months of ongoing conflict regarding Pintos' dismissal, which has previously led to labor actions at various subway stations.
