Buenos Aires teachers strike against school violence

Teachers across the province of Buenos Aires conducted a 24-hour strike on October 1, 2026, to protest rising violence within educational institutions. The strike was organized by the Frente de Unidad Docente Bonaerense (FUDB), which includes unions such as SUTEBA, FEB, UDOCBA, and AMET.

The protest was triggered by several recent incidents of physical aggression and digital harassment against educators. A notable case occurred in Trenque Lauquen, where a preschool teacher suffered a fractured arm after being attacked by a student's father. Other reported incidents of violence involving parents or community members were noted in districts including San Miguel, Hurlingham, Ensenada, Almirante Brown, and Florencio Varela.

In addition to security concerns, unions are demanding improved working conditions and salary increases. In Entre Ríos, the AGMER union held a strike to protest significant wage losses and a lack of educational funding. Teachers in Buenos Aires reported high levels of participation, with some districts seeing adherence rates between 90% and 98%.
