Bufalini Hospital launches national stroke treatment study

The Neurology and Stroke Unit at Bufalini Hospital in Cesena has enrolled its first two patients in the I-NIC 2 multicenter study, a national clinical trial focused on treating acute ischemic stroke.

The study evaluates a non-invasive device that delivers low-frequency, low-intensity pulsed electromagnetic fields as an adjunct to standard care. The goal is to determine if this technology can protect brain tissue affected by ischemia and improve functional recovery in patients. This research builds upon the 2024 I-NIC study, which showed promising results in reducing brain lesion volume and improving patient autonomy and disability outcomes.

Local residents in the Romagna region who meet the specific criteria can access this experimental treatment during the acute phase of a stroke at the Bufalini Hospital hub.
