Buffalo Bills' new Highmark Stadium faces fan criticism over sightlines

The Buffalo Bills recently hosted their first public event at the new $2.1 billion Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, during the annual Blue and Red practice. While the stadium features modern upgrades such as infrared heaters, a heated natural grass field, and a large canopy to protect approximately 65% of fans from the elements, the debut has been met with significant fan criticism regarding design flaws.

Many spectators reported obstructed views from various seating locations, including sightlines blocked by railings, staircases, and glass panes. Some upper-deck seats also appeared to have views limited by the press box outcropping. Additionally, fans raised concerns regarding the steepness of the upper sections, a lack of bathrooms at the highest levels, and underwhelming video boards.

Bills executives, including COO Pete Guelli, responded by stating that the majority of feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and that sightline issues involve less than 1% of personal seat license holders. The team noted that some obstructed seats are intended for non-football events like concerts and that prospective buyers were provided with virtual tours to preview views. The franchise plans to address specific complaints on a case-by-case basis over the next six weeks ahead of the regular-season home opener.
