Bug Fire burns over 11,400 acres near Nevada-California border

The Bug Fire, which ignited northwest of Cold Springs near the Nevada-California border, has burned over 11,400 acres. Containment levels have fluctuated, with recent reports placing containment at approximately 3%.

The fire has caused significant disruption in Washoe County, Nevada, and parts of Lassen and Sierra counties, California. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for several residential zones, including Cold Springs, Canyon Hills, and White Lake. While some evacuations in Cold Springs were lifted, authorities have continued to monitor and expand warning zones as the fire progresses.

Aerial suppression efforts include support from the Nevada Army National Guard, utilizing CH-47 Chinook and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Although the fire has caused power outages for approximately 2,000 customers and necessitated several road closures along the U.S. 395 corridor, fire officials reported that no structures had been destroyed during the initial stages of the blaze.
