Bugatti considers manual transmission and non-hybrid V16 engine

Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac has indicated that the manufacturer may develop a version of its V16 hypercar featuring a traditional manual transmission and a naturally aspirated engine without hybrid assistance.

While the current Bugatti Tourbillon utilizes an 8.3-liter V16 developed with Cosworth paired with three electric motors to reach 1,775 horsepower, a manual variant could focus on the engine's standalone performance. The naturally aspirated V16 produces 986 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque on its own, capable of revving to 9,000 rpm.

Removing the 25-kWh battery, electric motors, and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission would reduce vehicle weight and provide a more analog driving experience. Engineering a manual gearbox capable of managing the engine's high torque remains a significant technical challenge, but Rimac has expressed enthusiasm for the concept.
