Bugatti rolls out final W16 Mistral, ending iconic W16 engine era

Bugatti has completed the last of 99 W16‑powered Mistral roadsters, marking the end of production for the 8‑litre quad‑turbo W16 engine that defined the brand since the Veyron. The final example left the Atelier in Molsheim finished in a two‑tone Pearl‑and‑Sparkle livery and bears the inscription “The last of its kind” on the body, interior plaque and rear wing. It incorporates bespoke Sur Mesure touches such as a falcon‑shaped gear‑selector knob for its Middle‑Eastern owner, Ettore Bugatti’s signature embroidered in the headrests and engraved on door sills, and a Lalique crystal armrest plate titled “Spirit of the Wind”. The model previously set a world‑record speed of 453.91 km/h (282 mph) in November 2024, becoming the fastest production open‑top car. The rollout follows Bugatti’s opening of the new La Manufacture facility, which will house the upcoming Tourbillon hyper‑car built around a V16 hybrid powertrain, signalling the brand’s shift from the W16 era to electrified performance.

The final Mistral’s delivery underscores the closure of a two‑decade chapter in hypercar engineering while highlighting Bugatti’s continued emphasis on extreme personalization and craftsmanship.
