Bugatti ends W16 era as final Mistral rolls out and Bolide gains road‑legal version

Bugatti has completed production of its W16‑powered hypercar line with the last Bugatti W16 Mistral exiting the Atelier in Molsheim. The limited run of 99 units, featuring a dual‑tone Pearl‑Sparkle paint scheme and a record top speed of 453.91 km/h set by Andy Wallace, marks the end of the W16 engine era for the brand as it transitions to its new La Manufacture facility.

In parallel, the track‑only Bugatti Bolide, the final W16‑engine model destined for racing, has been adapted for public‑road use by UK firm Lanzante Limited. Modifications include LED headlights, a softer suspension setup and street‑legal Michelin tyres, while retaining the near‑1,600 hp 8.0 L quad‑turbo W16. The road‑legal Bolide was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026 and will be produced in a limited batch of 40 cars.

Both developments signal Bugatti’s shift away from pure W16‑powered hypercars toward a forthcoming hybrid generation.
