Bugatti Veyron sets auction record with $5.44 million sale

A 2014 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Jean-Pierre Wimille has set a new record for the most expensive Veyron sold at a public auction. The vehicle was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Zurich for approximately $5.44 million.

The sale price significantly exceeded the initial estimate of 2.4 to 2.8 million Swiss francs, ultimately selling for roughly 61 percent above the maximum valuation. The bidding process concluded in less than three minutes.

The high price is attributed to the extreme rarity of the model, as Bugatti produced only three units of the Jean-Pierre Wimille edition. This specific car has recorded only 3,766 kilometers since its manufacture. The vehicle features an 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbo engine producing approximately 1,183 horsepower, capable of reaching a top speed of 409 km/h.
