Bugatti Veyron sets new auction record in Zurich
A 2014 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille’ has set a new auction record, selling for CHF 4,505,000 (approximately $4.91 million or 19.3 million PLN) at an RM Sotheby's sale in Zurich.
The sale price exceeded the auction house's high estimate of CHF 2.8 million by more than 60 percent. The bidding process for the vehicle lasted less than three minutes. This transaction marks the highest price ever achieved for a Veyron at a public auction, surpassing the previous record held by a Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu by roughly $2.35 million.
The ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille’ is a highly rare edition from Bugatti’s ‘Les Legendes de Bugatti’ series, with only three units ever produced. The model honors the French racing driver who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937 and 1939. This specific vehicle has covered only 3,766 kilometers since its manufacture in 2014.
