Buggyra ZM Racing switches to Mercedes-Benz for Dakar Rally

Buggyra ZM Racing has announced a major shift in its long-distance racing program, moving away from Tatra technology to adopt the Mercedes-Benz Zetros platform starting with the 2027 Dakar Rally.

The new project, officially presented in Le Mans, involves the development of two specialized racing vehicles to accommodate a demanding schedule. This dual-vehicle strategy allows the team to compete in the Dakar Rally in January 2027 and immediately transition to the Africa Eco Race without waiting for the Dakar machinery to return.

Martin Šoltys, an eight-time Dakar participant, will drive the new Mercedes-Benz special and serves as the technical director for the truck section. The second vehicle is being prepared for driver Théa Calvet. The team's lineup also includes Aliyyah Kolocová as a test and reserve driver. While specific technical details regarding engine performance and gearbox remain undisclosed, the project is being developed by Buggyra with support from Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Truck France.
