Builder Paul Garstin remembered for community contributions in Steep and Petersfield
Paul Garstin, a 76‑year‑old builder from West Sussex, founded Pegasus Builders in 1979. Starting as a "man with a van" operation, the firm grew over 45 years into a respected local construction company now based in Rogate and run by his son Rob.
Beyond his trade, Garstin became a central figure in the village of Steep. He served on the parish council, helped organise the annual fireworks display and bonfire on Steep Common, and was active in the village hall and the Steep War Memorial Village Club. His wife Selina and their children, Rob and Ellie, described him as a hands‑on, community‑focused individual.
A memorial service for Garstin will be held on Wednesday, 12 August, at the village church, followed by drinks at The Harrow Inn.
