Building collapses during demolition in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece
A seven-story residential block collapsed during urban transformation demolition works in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul. The incident occurred in the İnönü neighborhood on 2nd Yıldız Street while crews were working on an adjacent building.
The collapse caused damage to nearby buildings, natural gas and water installations, and a street lighting pole. Emergency services, including police, medical, and fire departments, were dispatched to the scene. Following an investigation, authorities confirmed that no individuals were trapped under the rubble.
Local residents expressed concerns regarding safety protocols. One resident, Kibar Yıldırım, claimed that sufficient precautions were not taken by the relevant authorities despite prior warnings. Yıldırım noted that the block contained approximately 54 to 55 apartments and stated that the building fell straight down, narrowly avoiding hitting neighboring structures.
