Building insulation requirements expand beyond thermal performance

The building and construction sector is responsible for approximately 39% of global CO2 emissions and nearly 50% of global material extraction. Despite improvements in energy use intensity (EUI), operational carbon emissions rose by 1% in 2024, reaching 9.9 billion tonnes of CO2.

To address these gaps, building envelope insulation remains a critical factor in controlling energy demand, improving thermal resilience, and reducing carbon emissions. However, Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) are often evaluated solely on thermal conductivity, thickness, U-values, and regulatory compliance.

Modern architectural requirements demand more comprehensive solutions. Beyond thermal performance, insulation systems must now address fire safety, joint reliability, environmental stress resistance, and indoor comfort, while still allowing for architectural expression and design identity.
