Bukit Aman denies Malaysian student arrested for drug smuggling in Indonesia
Bukit Aman has denied social media reports claiming a Malaysian university student was arrested in Indonesia for attempting to smuggle four kilograms of methamphetamine, known locally as syabu.
Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, Director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, clarified that the individual detained by Indonesian authorities in Tanjung Balai, North Sumatra, is an Indonesian national, not a Malaysian citizen. The suspect was apprehended on October 10 at the Teluk Nibung Ferry Terminal after arriving from Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
Investigations revealed that the four kilograms of methamphetamine, concealed in eight plastic packages, were reportedly handed to the suspect by an Indonesian man in the Klang Valley. Authorities emphasized that inaccurate information regarding international drug trafficking cases can cause public confusion and anxiety.
