Bukit Panjang HDB fire leads to evacuations and hospitalizations

A fire broke out in a ninth-floor HDB flat at Block 479 Segar Road in Bukit Panjang on the morning of October 4. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the alert at approximately 9:35 am, using a water jet to extinguish the blaze, which was confined to a single bedroom.

As a precautionary measure, authorities evacuated approximately 100 residents from the affected block. Three individuals were taken to Singapore General Hospital for medical treatment after being assessed for smoke inhalation; one person was from the unit where the fire originated, while the other two were from a neighboring flat. No deaths were reported.

Preliminary investigations by the SCDF suggest the fire likely had an electrical origin within the bedroom. Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution with household appliances and ensure electrical outlets are not overloaded.
