Bukwang Pharmaceutical to build 24 billion won automated warehouse

Bukwang Pharmaceutical has announced a 24 billion won investment to construct a state-of-the-art automated warehouse at its Ansan plant. The project aims to expand production capacity and maximize logistics efficiency.

By utilizing a vertical high-rise construction method, the facility will increase storage capacity from 1,500 cells to 4,500 cells, effectively tripling the current volume. The warehouse will integrate advanced smart logistics equipment, including racks, stacker cranes, and a Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

The automation is expected to reduce operational personnel requirements by approximately 60% and significantly accelerate processing speeds. Specifically, the time required for inbound and outbound processing per cell is projected to drop from 10 minutes to just 38 seconds. Additionally, the company will consolidate seven dispersed storage locations into a single integrated site.

This expansion is intended to support Bukwang Pharmaceutical’s long-term goal of establishing a production system capable of 1.2 billion tablets by 2029. The new facility is expected to provide an additional annual production capacity of 200 million tablets, equivalent to approximately 26 billion won in revenue. Construction is scheduled to begin this month, with completion and full operation targeted for late 2027.
