Bulgargaz withholds BOTAŞ contract pricing despite court order

Bulgargaz has partially complied with a court order to disclose information regarding its natural gas contract with the Turkish state-owned company BOTAŞ. While the company provided data on the quantities of gas delivered between 2023 and 2025, it continues to withhold the specific financial amounts paid under the agreement.

According to the released data, Bulgargaz received 664,438 MWh in 2023, 3.34 million MWh in 2024, and 4.38 million MWh in 2025. These volumes represent a relatively small portion of Bulgaria's total gas consumption, estimated at approximately 1% to 5% depending on the year.

Bulgargaz CEO Georgi Tatarski stated that the refusal to release pricing information is due to objections from BOTAŞ. This stance contradicts a Sofia Administrative Court ruling which determined that the information is of high public interest. Currently, Bulgargaz is reportedly not paying monthly capacity invoices as of July 2024, and negotiations to amend the contract terms are ongoing.
