Bulgaria advances energy security via Vertical Gas Corridor

Bulgarian Energy Minister Iva Petrova has announced that key energy infrastructure projects are nearing completion to bolster regional energy security. Speaking at the Circular Gaia Symposium in Athens, Petrova highlighted the Vertical Gas Corridor as a vital example of regional partnership that provides strategic advantages through supply diversification.

Regarding the Vertical Gas Corridor, Petrova noted that investments in the Bulgarian section are nearly finished. The segment connected to Greece is already operational, with final investments expected to increase capacity toward Greece and North Macedonia by early next year. The section connecting to Romania is scheduled to be operational by the end of this year.

Other major regional initiatives mentioned include the East-West electricity corridor, the Gregy project, and a hydrogen interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria. Petrova emphasized that strengthening these regional partnerships is essential for the security of Southeast Europe as the region enters the final year of the REPowerEU plan.
