Bulgaria plans energy price freeze and 2027 budget negotiations
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev and Energy Minister Iva Petrova have announced that electricity and heating prices for households will remain frozen through July 1, 2027. To maintain this stability despite geopolitical volatility and rising gas prices, the government will utilize the Energy System Security Fund, supported by revenue caps on state-owned energy companies.
Simultaneously, Vice Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov stated that the 2027 state budget will likely be presented next week, pending final discussions with the European Commission. The government is working to meet EU fiscal requirements to reduce the budget deficit toward a 3% target by 2029, while attempting to protect social programs, including pensions and wages for teachers and doctors.
Industrial leaders have expressed concern over high energy costs, noting that electricity prices exceeding 300 euros per megawatt-hour threaten the viability of energy-intensive sectors. Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Plamen Abrovski is monitoring supply chains to prevent unjustified price increases in food products.
