Bulgaria and Greece cost of living comparison shows mixed food prices

A comparative analysis by the platform ‘Znam Tsenite’ has highlighted significant differences in the cost of living between Bulgaria and Greece. Using data from Eurostat and major supermarkets, the study compared 16 essential products as of June.

In Bulgaria, certain items are notably cheaper, such as eggs and chicken fillet. For instance, a dozen eggs cost approximately 3.70 BGN in Bulgaria compared to 6.90 BGN in Greece, and chicken fillet is priced at 7.70 BGN in Bulgaria versus 15 EUR in Greece.

Conversely, other staples are more expensive in Bulgaria. Olive oil prices are roughly half of those in Greece, and tomatoes cost 3.10 BGN in Bulgaria compared to 2 EUR in Greece. Potatoes are also found to be cheaper in Greece. The analysis suggests that while the two economies have followed different trajectories over recent decades, they are gradually converging due to shared economic pressures.
