Bulgaria and Poland secure opening victories at European Volleyball Championship
In the European Volleyball Championship held in Bulgaria, Bulgaria secured a 3-0 victory over North Macedonia at the Arena 8888 in Sofia. Aleksandar Nikolov led the Bulgarian team with a record 19 points, noting that while the team started nervously due to the pressure of playing at home, they were able to maintain control in the decisive phases of each set.
In the same group, Poland achieved its first victory of the tournament with a 3-0 win against Portugal. Polish players noted the strong support from traveling fans despite lower attendance compared to local matches. Coach Nikola Grbić utilized the early group stage matches to rotate his squad, giving various players opportunities to build confidence and test different tactical options.
While the Polish team has faced minor organizational challenges, such as the lack of a gym at the venue and rigid training schedules imposed by organizers, the team management has been working to resolve these issues.
