Chelsea-3 vessel towed to Burgas after drone attack in Black Sea

The Maltese-flagged vessel Chelsea-3, which was struck by drones in the Black Sea on October 13, has been successfully towed to the port of Burgas, Bulgaria. The rescue operation, conducted under difficult weather conditions, involved the tugboat Aliot and the vessel Chelsea-2. The ship had been drifting for several days near the Bulgarian coast after the attack, which occurred 17 nautical miles east of Byala.

All 15 crew members were rescued during the initial incident. Preliminary inspections of the vessel revealed three significant hull breaches: one on the starboard side, one on the port side, and one at the stern. Bulgarian Minister of Transport Georgi Peev stated that the country is working to gather evidence for an independent investigation to determine the origin of the attack, noting that one working hypothesis points toward Russia.

In response to the incident, the Military Prosecutor's Office in Sofia has opened pre-trial proceedings. The investigation is examining potential violations of international laws of war within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone. Authorities are currently working to identify the source of the drones and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
