Bulgaria budget deficit reaches 3 billion euros in August
Bulgaria's budget deficit reached 3 billion euros in August, representing 2.4% of the projected GDP. This is an increase from the 2.2 billion euro deficit (1.8% of GDP) recorded in July.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Finance attributed the worsening fiscal balance primarily to a concentration of large investment payments related to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). These payments are being made to meet activity eligibility deadlines. The Ministry expects RRP cash-basis expenditures to continue exerting pressure on the deficit until the fifth payment is received from the European Commission.
Revenue for the first eight months of the year totaled 30.1 billion euros, a 11.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025, driven largely by rising tax revenues. Meanwhile, consolidated fiscal program expenditures reached 33.1 billion euros by the end of August, a significant increase from the 29.6 billion euros recorded during the same period last year.
