Bulgaria clinches first Eurovision victory, fans celebrate in BC

Bulgaria won its first Eurovision Song Contest title in the competition’s 70‑year history. The winning entry, the upbeat dance track “Bangaranga” performed by Bulgarian pop star Dara, secured the crown against favorites such as Finland and Australia.

The triumph sparked enthusiastic celebrations among the Bulgarian community in Greater Victoria, British Columbia. Folk‑dance group Sini Balkani and other locals gathered to watch the broadcast and wave the Bulgarian flag. “I think it’s really brought Bulgarians together,” said community member Elizabeth Tzatcheva. Another resident, Theodora Borissov, exclaimed, “Our jaws hit the floor,” after seeing Dara’s performance.

The victory has been likened to a national morale boost, with many Bulgarians abroad describing the win as “a miracle” and a source of hope for their nation.
