Bulgaria commemorates 105 years since death of Ivan Vazov

Bulgaria is commemorating the 105th anniversary of the death of Ivan Vazov, known as the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature. On September 22, the National Literary Museum organized a memorial ceremony in Sofia.

The commemoration included a service at the writer's grave near the St. Sophia Church. Speakers such as Atanas Kapralov, director of the National Literary Museum, and poet Dimitar Hristov shared insights into Vazov's life and literary legacy. The event also featured an essay by Rada, the granddaughter of Assoc. Prof. Grigoriy Vazov.

Vazov passed away on September 22, 1921. His original funeral was marked by significant state honors, including 101 cannon salutes. To mark the anniversary, the Ivan Vazov House-Museum in Sofia offered free admission to visitors. The museum, which served as the writer's final home, will celebrate its centenary as a museum in November 2026.
