Bulgaria culls 220 sheep and goats in Teshovo foot‑and‑mouth outbreak

In the village of Teshovo, Hadzhidimovo municipality, Blagoevgrad region, 220 infected and contact sheep and goats were humanely culled after a foot‑and‑mouth disease (sharka) outbreak was confirmed. A 20‑kilometre surveillance zone was established around the primary focus, encompassing the nearby municipalities of Hadzhidimovo, Sandanski, Gotse Delchev and Garmen.

The Regional Epizootic Commission met to adopt strict bio‑security measures, including intensified controls on animal movement, mandatory reporting of suspected cases, and inspections for illegal trade. Municipal epizootic commissions are to be created to further prevent disease spread, and owners who violate regulations will face immediate culling of animals.
