Bulgaria deploys anti-drone systems to protect defense facilities

Bulgaria is deploying advanced anti-drone systems and increasing police patrols to protect critical national infrastructure and weapons facilities. Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev announced the initiative following a comprehensive security review aimed at countering aerial threats to the domestic defense industry.

The security escalation follows a recent fire at a weapons depot operated by the Bulgarian arms manufacturer EMCO. Company representatives have stated they believe the fire was a result of intentional sabotage. This incident is part of a broader pattern; EMCO officials noted that more than 10 similar incidents involving Bulgarian defense companies have occurred since 2011.

In addition to technical upgrades, law enforcement agencies have been instructed to intensify routine patrols, specifically focusing on isolated sites used for the production and storage of military weapons. These measures follow other recent security concerns, including a major explosion at a military munitions site near Belitsa in August.
