Bulgaria discusses AI development and international governance role

Bulgarian officials and the Alliance for Sustainable AI Development (AURSI) have held discussions regarding the nation's role in the artificial intelligence sector and the challenges posed by the technology.

President Iliana Yotova met with AURSI representatives to discuss cybersecurity risks, the importance of information authenticity, and the social impact of AI. She emphasized the need for detailed analysis to facilitate workforce retraining as AI affects traditional professions.

Separately, Deputy Foreign Minister Hristo Polendakov met with AURSI leadership to discuss international AI cooperation. Bulgaria expressed interest in playing a more active role in global AI governance, potentially serving as a co-facilitator for the Second Global Dialogue on AI Governance, which is set to take place in New York in May 2027. The discussions also covered the integration of AI within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the promotion of Bulgarian technological expertise on the international stage.
