Bulgaria discusses fair price methodology for food products

The Bulgarian Ministry of Economy has convened producers and traders to discuss a methodology for calculating the ‘fair value’ of essential food products. While a formula is currently under public discussion, significant questions remain regarding how this value will be determined.

Former Economy Minister Nikola Stoyanov noted that the concept of a ‘fair price’ will not change existing regulations but may serve as a benchmark to identify distortions within the supply chain. He suggested that the goal is to increase traceability rather than using administrative coercion. Stoyanov expressed belief that prices should decrease as experts have identified significant markups at various points along the supply chain.
