Bulgaria addresses economic slowdown, EU relations, and infrastructure

Bulgaria faces several domestic challenges regarding economic growth, infrastructure, and European integration. Former Deputy Finance Minister Lyubomir Datsov noted that economic growth is slowing and food prices are expected to continue rising, partly due to droughts in Western Europe and international instability. He also suggested the actual budget deficit might end below 3%, despite official projections, and noted that the state's capital expenditure is significantly lagging behind budget targets.

On the diplomatic front, Prime Minister Rumen Radev met with European Council President Antonio Costa to discuss the European agenda. Their discussions focused on the multi-annual financial framework, EU enlargement, European security, technological sovereignty, and the integration of artificial intelligence into economic and public life.

Regarding infrastructure, Minister of Regional Development Ivan Shishkov stated that the Hemus motorway is expected to be completed up to Veliko Tarnovo within two to three years. He noted that Lot 7 requires redesigning, which has impacted the timeline for subsequent lots. Shishkov also mentioned ongoing negotiations to revise previous construction contracts to better protect state interests.
